U SPORTS Basketball: Pick Six Week 1

DISCLAIMER

You cannot actually bet on U SPORTS Basketball, we do not condone betting on sports, however if this is something you’re interested in this is how we assume the lines would look like for this week’s games.

Each week Jordan, Mitch and Ryan will pick against the spread six games for nothing but personal enjoyment. In advance, we’re sorry that your team wasn’t favoured, or that you can’t actually bet on these games.

Here are some lines that three Canadian University Students invented in their free time:

Western @ Brock

The Line: Brock (-8.5)

The first conference game of the 2017-18 U SPORTS season goes tonight as the Mustangs roll into St.Catharines to take on CUSN’s #2 team in the nation, the Brock Badgers. Western lost Jordan Henry earlier in the preseason, but still boasts a deep guard rotation of Eriq Jenkins and Alex Coote in the starting five and Omar Shiddo and Jedson Tavernier to bring scoring and defensive playmaking off the bench.

Brock’s starting unit is one of the most talented in the country, but if Western is able to keep the pace of the game down and force turnovers, they have a chance to cover on the road.

Guelph @ McMaster

The Line: McMaster (-2.5)

The Burridge Gym should be packed for Patrick Tatham’s official home debut as the Head Coach of the Marauders, and coming off a win against Saint Mary’s in their last preseason game, there should be no trouble winning and covering against a Gryphon group that finished their preseason with an overall point differential of negative 73.

Consider this your lock of the week.

Lakehead @ Queen’s

The Line: Queen’s (-7.5)

All the logic says take Queen’s at home, as they’ve beat both Concordia and Dalhousie during the Tindall Invitational this preseason. Lakehead has gone through a roster overhaul this offseason, but still has the steady hand of Mor Menashe in the backcourt, and Nick Burke and Kache Kopec have the ability to get hot in a hurry.

Lakehead may not win outright, but a cover is in play.

Trinity Western @ Alberta – Friday

The Line: Alberta (-22)

Alberta opens up their Canada West schedule with a double dip at home against a dismal Trinity Western team. The Pick Six rule is to always pick the first game of a Canada West double-header.

Barring something disastrous, Alberta should win this game and cover with ease, but there could always be first game jitters at play to open the door up for some shenanigans.

Calgary @ UNBC

The Line: Calgary (-14)

Although Calgary is still without Lucas Mannes in the backcourt, the usual suspects of Mambi Diawara, David Kapinga and Jhony Verrone should be more than enough to cover as a road favourite in Prince George.

UNBC adds Jovan Leamy – who played two games for Ryerson last season, and showed flashes of brilliance, so don’t write them off just yet. #CanWestAfterDark could find its first victim of the 17-18 season.

Ottawa @ McGill

The Line: Ottawa (-4.5)

Our #CUSNMBBGOTW (Game of the Week if you aren’t hip to the jive) pits two CUSN Top 10 teams, as #6 Ottawa travels to #10 McGill in the DeAveiro Derby on Saturday afternoon.

This one will come down to how quick the pace of the game is played, the Gee-Gees wanna run and the Redmen wanna dirty it up at a snail’s pace.

Ottawa at -4.5 is scary, pick at your own risk.
